First Community Dissemination Meeting

21/11/2008

On Wednesday November 21, 2008 a one day long meeting with representatives of the Bedouin community in the Beqaa was held with team members to discuss the results of a year of research at the AUB farm in Haouch Al Harimeh. A total of fifty men and women from all villages and tribes attended. Women arrived first for an informal discussion of the results with Dr. Faysal El Kak, assisted by Hiba Morcos and Nada Al Ragheb. The women voiced their concerns about discrimination, vaccination, health awareness, and the accessibility to emergency health care in the villages. After lunch, men and women gathered in the faculty of agriculture's conference room and listened to a presentation by Dr. El Kak. The resulting discussion centered on citizenship and how it hinders access not only to health care, but to education and infrastructure.
