Abu Eid Tribe Bedouins: "Lebanese" for more than Two-Hundred Years, yet Deprived of Lebanese ID; a newspaper article
24/02/2010
In Tuesday's issue of As-Safir newspaper (dated 23 February 2010), Mr. Abdul Raheem Shalha wrote an article about the sufferance of Abu Eid tribe with the issue of nationality, where back in 1996, only a portion of the tribe were given the nationality. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to see a family where only a fraction of the siblings have the Lebanese ID, or where the father has the identity but not his wife. The article describes the repercussions of not having the Lebanese ID on the Bedouins' rights of schooling, employment, ownership, and their access to public services like healthcare, and others.
